experience body decoration and freedom.
Call ahead to make an appointment, that will be uninterrupted, on
the day and time that works for you.
Celebrate your life, your path, your trials and tribulations - free
yourself of the past,
anticipate a great future - make it happen.
You decide
to make it happen.
A description of the tattoo process for some
clarity in what to expect.
--------------------------------------------------
After about 13 years in the business I feel more and more how
important the tattoo is to the person getting it. When an
individual gets his or her first tattoo it is a very important and
liberating experience. The customer usually has thought
about how their family will react, how their friends will react, how
their boss and peers at the job or at school will react and that can
be stressful. They try to pick something of significance to
themselves and something that their folks will be cool with, or
something not exactly what they want but will make everyone happy.
They may have drawn a sketch and carried it with them for years.
They may have reworked it for years, changed the image, thought
about line work, should it have color, should it just be black and
gray, small - medium - large and various other factors. Where
shall they place it? Usually one is faced with the dilemma of
hiding it or putting it in a place they can see it. Usually
the first one is small, also. A host of other factors come
into their mind also.
Well, then you (the client) contacts the shop of choice. An
appointment is set up. It is here the artist tries to sort out
all this information and your thoughts by asking questions to decide
on the best course of action. Your artist should let you
know if the art is too tiny and if it will fill in over time, if it
is better placed in a different location, and other assorted
suggestions based on years of observing tattoos as they age, and
people responses to rash decisions they insisted on.
Tattoo artists want your first tattoo to be a good experience.
Having an open mind to the first encounter in the shop will serve
you best. These and other dialogues take place and then you
get to the happy moment where you have reached the idea for the
design and set up your appointment for a tattoo session.
If it is not your fist tattoo and you bring in a
design you found on line, in a book, magazine, or else where. the
artist knows what you want and gives you a quote for the work.
If it is custom: meaning the artist will really have to
interpret "you verbal description" into a design - it may involve
paid research time for the artist to develop you drawing.
If it is more complex such as a sleeve, legging, cover your back or
you chest - then a longer collaboration will be necessary.
Like anything - say designing a kitchen, a house,
a garden, a paint scheme with an interior decorator or architect,
these are custom projects that involve time and expenses. As
such the beauty that you saw that brings you in - is the result of
the process just described.
Every artist also enjoys the project where you
pick the area, explain a few thoughts, symbols, or ideas to be
expressed and let the artist really dream up a custom - one of a
kind - unique to you tattoo.
6/29/2011 - A very breezy, balmy, day in Redmond
Washington.
-----------------------------------------------------
I moved here to enjoy the outdoors. Today is fantastic.
It is just so nice to walk about, see the clouds, smell the fresh
air. Today was mostly discussions with clients about their
upcoming tattoos. I am wondering how to stash a little dough
and really take a long deserved vacation next year. Since I
moved here I have enjoyed some short and long hikes, concerts, small
gathering type dinner parties, UFC with the guys, some gambling at
the casinos, biking, kayaking, and more. But now it is time to
really get away. I hope to visit Europe somehow, maybe a 10
day trip with a guide as a group, or by luck meet someone who visits
here and lives there that will give me a tour.
As a
professional artist I should have gone long ago.
I want to see art, museums, sculptures, buildings, the seas, etc.
Ah, here as I type I tell myself to make it happen. So begins
the wish.....
Ok my thoughts grow deeper during the holiday season -
12/06/2011.
I get kind of mindful of the time passing during holiday season at the
year's end. Once upon a time I had a home on the water. During the
holidays people visited and some ice fished, played hockey, skated, went to the
cider mills with me, chopped wood, partied and the works. For me December
31st or January 1st was most important. Which ever night I was free
I walked out onto the frozen lake, with a blanket to lay down on over the snow
on the frozen lake, and looked up at a clear winter sky and stars. Alone,
breathing cool fresh evening air, I contemplated my resolutions, thanked my God
for my blessings, wished good fortune for friends and loved ones, and said a
prayer for the earth and humanity.
As I sit in my shop today with some free time on my hands I again recall the
Michigan air, Aurora Borealis, and my thoughts.
I was much busier then, lived a much more fast paced and hectic life, and
was assuredly more stressed. It seems as time goes by I seek a quieter
life. I somehow make ends meet now and I use free time to paint, draw,
watch movies, and think. Have been a real type "A", hyper person my whole
life to survive, it now seems weird to relax. At first, since I am open 7
days a week, no work moments panicked me. But I just watch my expenses,
try to keep them in balance, and allow myself to relax. So besides
thinking of others, helping family members during these rough economic times, I
am teaching myself to relax. I meditate more, do some tai Chi on occasion,
exercise, and sleep more and well. I keep all electronic devices like:
TVs, Cell phones, Computers out of my bedroom. Nothing but a big bed and
books. A small table for a snack or a tea or coffee. I am starting
to purge myself of unnecessary possessions - like: old cassette music tapes, vhs
tapes (I still dig them in the shop for movies), and things. Sometimes
when a lamp goes bad or something breaks - I ask myself - "do I really need to
replace this, upgrade, or forget it?" I usually just pitch it out, and do
not replace it. Instead I indulge myself in Art supplies and good food.
I wish you all a happy holiday season, see if you can perhaps pick something
good out of this. Join me in allowing ourselves to relax and rethink our
priorities in life.
