1.   Wait at least one (1) hour before removing bandage from your fresh new tattoo.
The reason the bandage should stay on it to give comfort and protection.
The bandage can stay on for up to 4 hours.
It allows the medicine (like Aquaphor) to work on your fresh tattoo.  Medically, a fresh tattoo is kind of a cross between a cut and sunburn.  While I’m tattooing you, I use and have always used A & D Brand which is actually vitamins A & D for skin care. My best recommendation for tribal and tattoos with lots of coverage is Aquaphor or Bag Balm.

2.   Once the bandage is removed, wash with cold water and soap. A shower is fine then. After washing in the shower and cleaning the tattoo, keep your body turned so the water runs on an area other than the tattoo area. Do not let water pound on your tattoo for the first two weeks.
Do not submerge under water in a hot tub or bath tub for two weeks.

3.   In a few days, your tattoo will begin to peel off, much like sunburn peels. Don’t be alarmed, this is entirely normal.
Do not scratch it, gently slap it, or wash it and reapply fresh medicine.

4.   Aquaphor, A & D, Bacitracin, Triple Antibiotic, Ink Fixx, Tattoo Goo, Tatwax, Tattoo Goo, Bag Balm can be used right from the beginning of care.
Depending on any sensitivity to lanolin, you might want to use Ink Fixx, it works well.
DO NOT use Neosporin as it draws out the ink even though it’s a good antibiotic. My personal favorite for myself is A & D for 3 days until tattoo beings to shed the top layers of skin, then Aquaphor for the next week and then I use skin lotion for maintenance. Keep the area covered with a light coating of ointment for 4 to 6 days. Then switch to a skincare product formulated for tattoo care and maintenance. DO NOT let a hard scab form; keep the tattoo moist for first seven (7) days, 24/7. On rare occasions people can have allergies to any of these products (Bacitracin has changed its formula several times & people can be allergic to it). Check with your physician if you have any questions or doubts. Bright red irritated skin can mean either an allergy or infection. It is fine to air out your tattoo for about a half-hour with no ointment from time to time.

5.   Stay out of hot tubs, bath tubs, lakes, ocean, etc. for two weeks.
Possible grit and contaminants may be in lakes. USE COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!
For instance, if the tattoo is on your arm, you can take a soak in the tub if you keep your arm out of the water.
Piercings can get wet and you can swim. Tattoos on the other hand, if soaked, can lose ink.

6.   DO NOT SCRATCH A TATTOO. If the tattoo itches, wash it and put on a fresh layer of ointment or salve.
To relieve itching, slapping gently is also OK.

7.   If you must dress up for work and the office, it is OK to cover your tattoo with lotion and then wrap it up in saran wrap under your clothes. Do not leave saran wrap on longer than 10 hours, or bacteria can grow. But, if you have a tattoo in the small of your back, for instance, cover with saran wrap at work then remove and leave uncovered until the next day
