An Original Character - Crazy, Rude, Cantankerous, and Skilled.

Mel had his own shops at different times and was a legend in his own time.

His nickname is derived from a tattoo on his head by "Spider Webb".

Yeah, I knew Mel, he was a nasty, mean. tough guy.
Before there were Navy Seals - Mel was Navy Combat Tactical - forerunners of the Seals.

This is the actual tattoo design, poem by Spider Webb, photo of younger Mel at the time, as signed by Mel for me in 2000, before his passing in 2003.

Below are various photos of Mel taken by me on a throw away camera one sunny day. He and I discussed Sumi Japanese paintings and technique. Especially the book "On the Laws of Japanese Painting" by Henry P. Bowe.
